Lafayette,LA- As the summer heats up, car air conditioners are now full blast, and that last thing anyone wants is for it to break down. With temperatures and the humidity going up, mechanics see many issues with people saying their air conditioner is not cooling correctly.
Robert Courville, the owner of Roberts Auto Repair in Lafayette, says that checking the air conditioner yourself with the newer model vehicle is now impossible without the proper equipment. That just by putting freeon you could be doing more harm to your car than you think.
"We see that they are overcharging the system which is worse than anything else they could do. they can do damage to the system. So just because its not cooling as good as you'd think that it should adding a can of freon is not the answer."
He says it's not necessarily a bad thing to blow your air as soon as you get in the car but turning on your recycling air button can cool the vehicle down faster.
"What that does is it recycles the air inside the car which is usually once the air conditioner is cooling good its cooler than the outside air so the air conditioner doesn't have to work quite as hard."
Courville emphasized that knowing exactly how your air conditioner systems works can help you save a lot of money in the long run. it would help if you didn't hesitate to get it checked out. "If it fails it could ruin your whole a/c system, whereas if you notice something not quite right and you go get it checked it could be something as simple as a fuse or a bad electric radiator fan or condenser fan, which could be repaired relatively cheap."
Courville believes that its only going to get hotter so make sure that you are ready to hit the road with no air conditioner problems. If you see that your car has any problems, please stop by Robert's Auto Repair located on Guilbeau Road.
