60 Second Science: Albedo

Albedo is what can determine if you are cool or hot on a summer day, but, what is it?

“Hey everybody it is Meteorologist Cory Smith for another installment of 60 second science and today we are talking about Albedo. Yes an interesting sounding word, but, it is actually a very simple term. Albedo refers to how much heat energy an object either absorbs or reflects from the sun. This is useful in the summer months and is why we recommend wearing lighter clothes when it is hot. White fabric has a higher albedo so it reflects more of that heat energy while black shirts absorb more of the heat and make you hotter. If you have any science or weather questions make sure to send those in and I will see you guys next time.”
