2 arrested for New Year Eve shooting in Vermilion Parish

They found two vehicles and a residence were shot 14 times with a .22 caliber gun.

VERMILION PARISH, La. (KADN) - Two men have been arrested for a shooting that happened on December 31st in Vermilion Parish.

According to the sheriff's department, Craig Dewon Batiste of Rayne is charged with assault by drive-by shooting. Johnathan Brian Lee of Crowley is charged with attempted first-degree murder and illegal discharge of a firearm.

A department spokesperson said that on Dec. 31, deputies were called for a shooting in the 300 block of Lover's Lane, south of Abbeville.

They found two vehicles and a residence were shot 14 times with a .22 caliber gun.

Detectives identified a suspect vehicle and confirmed the driver was Batiste. They later identified Lee as the shooter.
