Lafayette, La. - Christmas is nearing and there's one thing that's sure to get everyone in the holiday spirit, Christmas carols. Joy to the world and silent night are just a few personal favorites of my own.

I am going to tell you about a classic christmas song that tells us a story of 12 gifts over 12 days and what it has to do with this years inflation in America.

Majority of the items on the classic 12 days of Christmas song hardly ever make it on anyone's Christmas list. However this years Christmas index will have you looking at America's inflation rate differently.

According to financial services form PNC, this years Christmas price index is up almost 6%. That's the largest increase in 8 years for a total cost of $41,206 compared with $38,994.

On the first two days of Christmas a partridge in a pear tree and two turtle doves will cost you over $670 and three french hens?

"Thirty for high grade meat is not something that's too uncommon but when your'e talking about $9 and $10 a pound for low grade chuck ground meat that just barricades the whole grouping of food from a lot of people and their price range," said a Lafayette resident.

The price of meat went up 6.5% when Covid surged crippling our nations production plants. Four calling birds will strip you a good $600 and five golden rings will cost you almost a grand. Suprisingly on the list of 12 gifts gold is the biggest bargain, it's up just 8.5%.

"Invest in gold for your retirment because the market is steadily going up and it's a good investment," said Joshua.

Six geese-a-laying is about $650 and seven swans-a-swimming is peaking at just over a whopping $13,000.
Eight maids-a-milking is almost $60 bucks, the average price of a gallon of whole milk in the U.S. has risen 4% over the past year.

"I have a daughter whose 25 years old and she has a "nikki" baby and she has to buy the milk and the products for him. The prices have expanded more than normally within the year period," said Joshua.

If you've got deep pockets and might be a fan of the nutcracker then hiring nine ladies dancing will be about $7,500 and ten lords-a-leaping? $11,260.

Finally eleven pipers piping will be almost $3,000 and twelve drummers drumming will take a steap pick at your pockets totaling $3,200.

PNC says that consumers make up 70% of the U.S. economy during the Christmas holiday which is 70% of our gross domestic product.

If you can't afford any of those 12 gifts you can always do your part and shop locally. By doing so you can help stimulate the direct economy in which you live creating and retaining more jobs for the community.
